“cyclist hit by cah”

Friday May 8th, I was riding my bike home from work and I got hit by a car. (I'm fine!) It was about 9PM so it had gotten dark. Usually I ride home well before that so I did not have a light with me. A Toyota Rav4 was coming from the other direction and had started making a left turn into a parking lot. We didn't see each other -- me because I was paying more attention to how ridiculously fast I was going (ok.. only ~18), and them probably because bikers are pretty much invisible.

Yes I had my helmet on but there's only a small, unimpressive crack.

I was on track for a very fast day of commuting by averaging 14.7 mph and taking 13 minutes and 36 seconds to get to work (there are a lot of lights) that morning. The way back was going quite well but the next thing I knew I was on the ground with blood coming out of my head. I asked the nice driver to call someone for me which he promptly did. As I tried to convince Bernie the EMT that they should just stitch me up and let me go home, the cop said that the fork on my bike snapped in half and I had put a hole in the car's windshield (gj helmet!).

The cop put my (still intact) Garmin 205 GPS in my pocket and we sped off to MGH. Here's a map of the whole thing :)

5 hours, 2 CT scans, 1 chest xray, 1 pelvis xray, ? stitches later my commute ends!

Update: Stitches out, forehead healing up nicely, and yesterday I finally got the check from the driver's insurance company! Back on the road soon.
